Youth Ministry Group Interviewed

Krystal Finn and James Harrison, members of our Youth Ministry group; Father Tony, Director of Religious Education, Juanita Bousquet, and Youth Ministry Coordinator, Barbara Yager, were interviewed during the Tag Sale by diocesan Catholic Mirror Magazine and Real to Reel journalist and Social Media Editor, Peggy Weber.

Krystal Finn interviewed by Peggy Weber, diocesan Social Media Editor, Catholic Mirror and Real to Reel journalist, while proud gramma, Nancy Finn (left) and Youth Ministry Coordinator, Barbara Yager look on.

The diocese is doing a story on the group’s fundraising goal to raise the sum of five thousand dollars to purchase a Heifer Gift Ark as part of their efforts to end hunger worldwide. According to Heifer, an Ark provides two water buffalos, two cows, two sheep and two goats, along with bees, chicks, rabbits and more, as well as training in their use.

The story will run in the November/December edition of The Catholic Mirror that comes out in early November, and also appear sometime in October on Real to Reel, the diocesean TV program which appears on WWLP TV-22 on Saturday evenings at 7pm.  You can also see them on the diocesan Catholic Communications Facebook page!

James Harrison tells how the group started its Heifer ministry.

The group currently sits at $4,125.96, less than $875 short of meeting its goal of raising $5,000.00.  They had taken the summer off from fundraising, but are now back at school and anxious to accomplish this tremendous feat.

Father Tony is prepared for his interview.

In addition to the fundraising drive for Heifer International, Peggy also learned from Barb Yager and Juanita Bousquet that the group had started a parish Food Pantry, and held a clothing drive for the homeless.

Our DRE, Juanita Bousquet, tells Peggy Weber about the origins of the Youth Ministry, and the kinds of things they’ve been doing in the parish.

Youth Ministry members (L-R) Kristin Slowinski, Vega Johnson-Bouchard, James & Michael Harrison and Krystal Finn sell baked goods at the Tag Sale to raise funds toward their Heifer Ark goal.

The group did pretty well, selling $387.22 in baked goods.  Their next event will be to once again assist the parish Knights of Columbus with their pancake breakfast on October 9.

If you’d like to help with a donation of your own, we gratefully accept checks (made out to St. Joseph Parish) with “Heifer Ark” in the memo line.

One Response to Youth Ministry Group Interviewed

  1. Jim says:

Update: Peggy Weber advised us after initial posting of this article that the article will appear in the November/December issue of The Catholic Mirror – not the October issue. Thanks to Peggy for that update and all of her kind words. The updated information has been changed in the body of the post.
